Kremlin says Ukraine conflict far from resolution
While speaking to reporters in Bishkek, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed assertions that negotiations were nearing a breakthrough. “Wait. It’s too early to say that,” he responded when questioned about claims that the parties had never been closer to an agreement.
He mentioned that Moscow will provide full information once the schedule for contacts with US Presidential Special Envoy Steven Witkoff is finalized, noting that Washington has indicated plans to send the envoy to Russia. “As soon as the exact timing of these contacts in Moscow is determined, we’ll let you know,” he said.
Peskov also addressed leaked recordings of alleged Russian-US phone discussions that have surfaced online, cautioning that the materials seem designed to interfere with diplomatic channels. “I wouldn’t exaggerate their significance,” he stated, adding that “there will be a very large number of people in various countries, including the United States, who will try to disrupt these peaceful developments.”
He noted that there has been no additional progress in high-level communication between Moscow and Washington beyond President Donald Trump’s stated plan to send Witkoff to the Russian capital.
Trump recently hinted that “something good may be happening” regarding contacts between Russia and Ukraine, though reports indicate that Washington’s potential proposal is still being reviewed.
