Putin tries playing traditional Kyrgyz lute during visit to Bishkek

(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin tried his hand at playing a traditional Kyrgyz lute, the komuz, during a visit to Bishkek on Wednesday. The instrument, which he picked up while touring a pavilion designed like a nomadic yurt at the Kyrgyz presidential residence, has three strings, similar to a balalaika.

“It has three strings, just like a balalaika,” a musician explained to Putin in a video. “Yes, I understand,” he replied. As he attempted to play, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko could be heard noting that the instrument was out of tune.

During his trip, Putin also held talks with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov. On Thursday, he is scheduled to attend a summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), a regional defense alliance consisting of former Soviet states.
